Brett E. Buhl (“Mr. Buhl”) received his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law in 2006, where he graduated magna cum laude.  While attending the University of Dayton, Mr. Buhl served on the University of Dayton Law Review, first as a Staff Writer and then as an Executive Editor in his final year.  Originally from Van Wert, Ohio, Mr. Buhl received his undergraduate degree in business operations management at Miami University, magna cum laude.  Mr. Buhl concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of employment and labor law, including all types of civil rights and employment-related claims.

Experience

Experience: 

Mr. Buhl counsels and defends management on a wide range of employment, labor, and personnel matters.  He regularly represents employers in federal and state court litigation, as well as investigations and administrative proceedings involving the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Indiana Civil Rights Commission.

Mr. Buhl devotes a significant portion of his practice to advising employers on medical leave issues under the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other federal and state laws.  He also has significant experience defending lawsuits involving allegations of employment discrimination, harassment and retaliation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Multi-plaintiff wage litigation in the workplace is becoming more frequent, and Mr. Buhl regularly advises employers on wage issues under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and state law.  He also defends wage-related lawsuits, including FLSA collective actions and state law class actions.

Mr. Buhl represents a number of both small and large sized employers, including large telecommunication companies, restaurants, manufacturing facilities, financial institutions, utilities companies, health care institutions, and automobile companies.
