Profile
Cheryl Stanton represents management in all areas of employment law, including employment discrimination, wage and hour, restrictive covenant and wrongful discharge litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country. She also regularly counsels clients regarding employee hiring, discipline and termination of union and non-union employees, and drafts and reviews employment and severance policies and agreements.
Ms. Stanton has been representing private and government employers in labor and employment law matters since 1998, after completion of her clerkship with the Honorable Samuel A. Alito, Jr., in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. In January, 2006, Ms. Stanton was elected a shareholder in the Firm, resigning that position in November, 2006, to accept an appointment as Special Assistant to the President and Associate White House Counsel. Ms. Stanton rejoined the firm in July 2008, after again having been elected a shareholder.
While Special Assistant to the President and Associate White House Counsel, Ms. Stanton was the White House’s principal legal liaison to the Department of Labor, the National Labor Relations Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, as well as to numerous other departments and independent agencies. Ms. Stanton also served as the primary legal counselor for the White House Presidential Personnel Office, the White House Personnel Office and the White House Office of Management and Administration, providing legal advice for personnel matters involving appointees throughout the Administration (including White House staff). She also served as a member of the White House Judicial Selection Committee where she assisted in identifying and evaluating candidates for federal judgeships.
Experience
Ms. Stanton has handled a range of matters from single plaintiff discrimination cases for employers in a variety of industries (manufacturing, financial services, client services, defense contracting, retail, hospitality) to putative class actions for larger companies, including those in the defense contracting industry. In addition, Ms. Stanton has defended employers in charges of discrimination before state and federal agencies, including charges that implicate or allege company-wide discrimination. Finally, Ms. Stanton has extensive experience defending employers (particularly those in the hospitality industry) in collective actions based on alleged wage and hour violations under federal and New York law, as well as handling discrimination class actions both in litigation and before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
