David B. Hawley

Profile

Mr. Hawley’s practice focuses primarily on advising management on employment-related issues and personnel practices and on employment litigation. Mr. Hawley has successfully responded for employers to state and federal agencies in cases involving claims under various anti-discrimination and employee leave laws. He also has participated in representing employers in cases involving racial and sexual harassment, wage and hour issues, trade secrets, non-competition agreements, and other employment contract claims, including the preparation of appellate materials to North Carolina’s appellate courts. He has assisted clients in conducting reductions-in-force, including evaluating issues relating to the WARN Act and the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA).  In addition, Mr. Hawley has substantial experience preparing employment, termination, and severance agreements, employee handbooks and policies, and non-competition agreements.

Mr. Hawley has lectured on various employment law topics before business groups and has provided training to supervisory and human resources staff on relevant employment law matters.

While in law school, Mr. Hawley served as a Staff Member and the Managing Editor of the North Carolina Law Review.
