L. Bakari Middleton

Profile

Mr. Middleton joined the firm’s Columbia, South Carolina, office in 2009, where he focuses his practice on labor and employment matters.  Mr. Middleton received his J.D. degree in 2007 from Georgetown University Law Center.  While in law school, Mr. Middleton served as a member of the Georgetown Journal of International Law and as a Legal Fellow in the Office of the Majority Whip, James E. Clyburn.  Prior to law school, Mr. Middleton graduated from Duke University.

Experience

Experience: 

Mr. Middleton handles the following matters:

  • Assists in litigating, mediating, and arbitrating employment-related cases
  • Works closely with clients to provide advice and representation on employment-related issues that may arise under federal statutes, such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, or issues related to retaliation
  • Works closely with clients to provide advice and representation on employment-related issues that may arise under South Carolina statute, regulation, or common law
  • Assists in preparing affirmative action plans and in complying with affirmative action regulations
  • Reviews and provides state and federal guidance on company policies, employee handbooks or manuals, and employment contracts
