Matthew C. Cooper
Profile
Matthew Cooper is an Associate in our Denver office, where he prepares cases for litigation and counsels employers on a wide array of employment matters, ranging from labor grievances to employer responsibilities within international companies. Mr. Cooper also works with employers on mining (MSHA) and occupational (OSHA) safety and health issues, including regulatory compliance, investigations, and accident prevention.
Mr. Cooper received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Colorado State University, and then moved to Brussels, Belgium to complete a Master's degree in International Law and International Relations from the University of Kent, Brussels School of International Studies. In 2006, he then started law school at the University of Denver, where he served as captain of the Jessup International Appellate team and as senior editor on the Denver Journal of International Law and Policy. Prior to joining Ogletree in 2011, Mr. Cooper served as a law clerk at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, where he helped compose written judgments in genocide and war crimes cases. He also worked as an immigration law associate in Boulder, CO, assisting clients with naturalization issues, asylum claims, and employment-based visa applications. Most recently, Mr. Cooper was a trial attorney for the United States Department of Labor, where he litigated mining safety and health cases before the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission.
Mr. Cooper speaks French, Spanish, and German.
