TORONTO – June 23, 2016 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce that Hugh Christie, managing partner of the firm’s Toronto office, has been recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory as a leading practitioner in the Employer practice area for the fifth consecutive year. This comprehensive guide ranks leading legal practitioners across Canada in more than 60 practice areas and leading law firms in more than 40 practice areas.

Published since 1997, the Canadian Lexpert® Directory utilizes a comprehensive survey to target lawyers who are acknowledged as leaders in their respective fields or prominent in their practice areas and professional organizations. Christie, who has practiced employment law for more than three decades, has been a successful pioneer in building Ogletree Deakins’ Toronto office, which opened in January 2016. His work, which focuses on representing employers in a full range of employment law issues, was acknowledged by the law firm lawyers and corporate counsel targeted in the Lexpert® survey.

Christie represents employers in all elements of employment law including pre-hiring through recruitment, drafting agreements, benefit plans and policies, discipline, promotion, succession planning, termination, and post-employment obligations. He also advises employers dealing with employment issues arising out of restructuring the workplace. Christie has been recognized through his career, including listings in The Legal 500 Canada, The Best Lawyers in Canada©, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, and Chambers (International). Christie earned his LLB from Queen’s University and an LLM with a mark of distinction from the London School of Economics. Christie currently serves as co-chair of the Queen’s University Centre for Law in the Contemporary Workplace, the only center for labor and employment law at a Canadian law school.
