   |   Press Release

COLUMBIA, S.C. – June 23, 2015 – Ogletree Deakins joins South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and countless leaders throughout South Carolina in the call for removal of the Confederate flag from the Statehouse grounds.

“I have joined with my community in mourning the loss of nine precious lives to this heinous act, and have been proud of the community’s loving and respectful response in support of these victims and their families,” said Ben Glass, managing shareholder of Ogletree Deakins’ Charleston office. “Now is a time for unity and reflection, and I fully support the growing and diverse range of voices calling for the flag’s removal.”

“Our hearts go out to all those impacted by this unspeakable act of violence,” said Kathy Dudley Helms, managing shareholder of Ogletree Deakins’ Columbia office. “We stand with our fellow South Carolinians in supporting the families of those lost and calling for a show of unity in the removal of the flag.”

“I join my colleagues in Charleston and Columbia in calling for the removal of the flag from the Statehouse grounds,” said Mike Shetterly, managing shareholder of the firm’s Greenville office. “Removing the flag that so many have found to be divisive from the grounds that are supposed to represent all our interests is appropriate as we continue to mourn the loss from this atrocious and shameful attack.”
