As an associate with Ogletree Deakins, Ms. Pitts focuses on all aspects of employment law, including claims arising under Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, as well as other federal and state employment laws. She also advises clients on various state administrative proceedings and represents employers in claims for unemployment benefits.
Ms. Pitts is a 2006 graduate of Florida A & M University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. During law school at Emory University School of Law, Ms. Pitts received the Dean’s award for earning the highest grade in her labor and employment class focusing on employment rights and obligations with respect to immigrant workers. She also received the Dean’s award for earning the highest grade in her legal writing and research class. Ms. Pitts further served on the board of the Black Law Students Association and was recognized by the Law School as a Top 10% Oralist after the annual first-year oral argument competition.
Before joining Ogletree Deakins, Ms. Pitts interned for the State Court of Fulton County, Georgia.
Experience
- Defend corporations in claims for unemployment benefits
- Investigate and defend large staffing companies and other corporate clients in charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and similar state agencies
- Counsel corporate clients and provide preventive advice on guidelines under the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act
- Assist with the defense of clients in federal and state employment-related lawsuits, including actions alleging discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, breach of contract, and employment-related torts
- Assist with and advise clients on garnishment matters
- Assist with responding to Department of Labor audits of foreign workers
