Carllene Placide is a Shareholder in the Labor & Employment Group. She concentrates her practice on international business, employment law, employment litigation and OSHA/WISHA matters. She also has extensive experience handling B, E, H, J, L, 0, P, TN and R nonimmigration status and visas, employment-based immigration visas, labor certifications and post-residency petitions.
Carllene has litigated in state and federal courts and agencies on a wide range of employment issues including race, gender, age, disability, religious and national origin discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour violation, safety and health issues and workers compensation. She also counsels corporate clients regarding employment immigration matters, measures to avoid litigation, EEO investigation and preparation of responses to EEO charges, new business venture employment practices, development and implementation of company policies and handbooks, employment contracts, contract negotiation, employee discipline, effective hiring and termination, employment and immigration regulatory compliance, and related employment matters.

- Quin v. Expedia, et al. - Representation of online travel corporation against claims of breach of contract, age discrimination, retaliation and negligent supervision.
- Asahara v. Onvia, Inc. (King County Superior Court - Represented online internet corporation in a national origin/accent discrimination and sex discrimination claims. Case settled on very favorable terms for the company.
- Oliver v. Azteca Mexican Restaurant Enterprises (W. Dist, WA) - Represented a multi-state, multi-site Washington based restaurant corporation in a case involving federal and state law claims of race discrimination and harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination in violation of public policy and outrage. Following a comprehensive summary judgment motion to dismiss the claim, the case settled for less than $16,000.
- Johnson, Vallery, Westergaard and Greer v. The Millionaire Club Charity, et al. - Represented a Washington nonprofit corporation in a multi-employee employment complaint, involving federal and state law claims of age discrimination, disability discrimination, retaliation, wrongful constructive discharge, aiding and abetting violation of RCW 49,60, negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress, and infringement of personality rights. Following opposing parties' review of proposed summary judgment motion to dismiss the claims, the case quickly settled on extremely favorable terms for the client.
- In re National Railroad Passenger Corporation d/b/a AMTRAK West - Represented client in appeal of a serious citation and notice of penalty assessment for willful violation of the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act concerning the client's lead shot ballast installation procedure. The state of Washington Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals dismissed on summary judgment the serious citation and vacated the penalty assessment.
