Evan J. Shenkman is a member of Ogletree Deakins’ Knowledge Management Department, serving as the firm’s Senior Knowledge Management Counsel. In this role, Mr. Shenkman is responsible for capturing and organizing the collective knowledge of the firm’s attorneys, allowing them to work more effectively and efficiently for their clients. For instance, Mr. Shenkman develops and collects comprehensive “best practices” documents for use by firm attorneys, provides updates on legal developments, and creates tools for the firm and its clients to manage, track and trend litigation.
Prior to his Knowledge Management Counsel role, Mr. Shenkman served as an associate and then a shareholder with the firm. Having practiced labor and employment law as a litigator and counselor since 2002, Mr. Shenkman has significant federal and state trial and appellate court experience, traditional labor law experience, and subject matter expertise in various areas including the WARN Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Title VII, social media, electronic discovery, and federal and state wage and hour law. Earlier in his career, Mr. Shenkman interned at the National Labor Relations Board’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., and at the New York City Office of Collective Bargaining. Mr. Shenkman also serves as a frequent speaker at firm events and webinars on numerous topics of interest to employers.
Experience
Among his recent matters, Mr. Shenkman defended a major television network in a civil rights suit brought by an on-air personality, represented a high end retailer in discrimination suits, counseled waste management companies in traditional labor matters, defended a major supermarket chain in discrimination matters, prosecuted and defended non-competition matters in the insurance industry, and represented a New Jersey County in public sector arbitrations.
